ESL has partnered with the Australian Cyber League to strengthen eSports’ community presence in the Oceanic region.
The ACL, founded in 2006 and operating a technical events agency since 2011, has previously collaborated with Riot Games and Blizzard to run the publishers’ World Championship qualifiers in the Oceanic region.
The move is intended to promote eSports in a region which is often overlooked despite holding some world class talent – as Australian CS:GO team Renegades proved by knocking out Titan at this year’s ESL Cologne tournament.
"We consistently see Oceanic teams compete in major competitions, such as Intel Extreme Masters and ESL One, against teams from more established regions," said Sebastian Weishaar, ESL’s Senior VP of International Business. "With our new partnership, we’re committed to giving the Oceanic region a fairer shot at major international competition by giving them more opportunities to compete at a higher level within their own countries.”
ESL’s Australian operations will now be conducted from Sydney, New South Wales, as ACL continues to provide services to their existing clients.
