Ex-ARM and Guerrilla Cambridge devs form new VR, AR and MR firm Virtual Arts

A team of ex-ARM and Guerrilla Cambridge devs have set up a new company based in Cambridge dedicated to revolutionising the worlds of virtual, augmented and mixed reality technology and content.

Virtual Arts was initially formed in December 2016 when co-founders Nizar Romdan and Doug Day (CEO and CTO respectively) left their roles at semiconductor firm ARM and got together with several members of Sony’s then recently dissolved Guerrilla Cambridge studio.

Among the team are those who have worked on the BAFTA Award-winning Sydney 2000 and LittleBigPlanet, as well as Killzone Shadow Fall and RIGS.

Now, after securing a successful round of seed funding, Virtual Arts is finally ready to take its vision of creating high-fidelity VR, AR and MR content to the next level while it raises its next round of Series A funding. As a result, the studio is interested in talking to any other potential investors who share its vision.

One of its first goals is to build a unique platform that meets the requirements and challenges of VR, AR and MR development and can bring that content to entry-level mobile devices. The company is also aiming to spread its unique content IP across games, animation and interactive experiences.

Virtual Arts CEO Nizar Romdan commented:There will soon be a world where virtual reality headsets are as readily available and as easily disposable as coffee cup holders. The devices of today with their current performance capabilities will be the dominant devices. The content being delivered to these devices will come from Virtual Arts and the companies using Virtual Arts’ unique technology platform to create content."
