FIFA 14 on PC won’t use next-gen Ignite engine

The Xbox One and PS4 versions of FIFA 14 will be powered by the next-gen EA SportsIgnite game engine, but the PC version will not, EA has confirmed.

FIFA community manager Rob Hodsonon Tweeted, "Clarification for the PC related questions earlier – EA Sports Ignite will power FIFA 14 on Xbox One and PS4, not PC."

This is disappointing for PC fans, who had only over the last couple of years become used to versions of FIFA that were at par with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

At the start of the current generation as well, FIFA games on PC used an older game engine than the one that powered the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, resulting in drastically different gameplay and features.

According to EA, the new engine ‘blends new technology with the best rendering, run-time physics, animation, intelligence, locomotion, and online systems from across EA into one powerful, new engine. Athletes will possess human-like intelligence for advanced decision-making, players will have the agility required to change speeds and directions with true athletic motion, and living worlds will make the game experience as rich and dynamic as real-world stadiums and arenas.’

Check out the trailer below for what the new engine is all about.

FIFA 14 is scheduled for release later this year on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS4 and Xbox One. No release date has yet been announced.
