Fig to produce games based on the unpublished works of Gary Gygax

The Gygax trust has partnered with crowdfunding site Fig, in order to develop and publish video games based on the unpublished works of the late Dungeons and Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax, who died in 2008.

The two will be working together to find developers to create games based on these works, which are said to have formed the inspiration behind the legendary tabletop game. The trust hopes to publish these titles through launching campaigns on the crowdfunding website.

The as-yet published works had a great significance to Gary Gygax and his family, according to Fig CEO Justin Bailey. “Gary’s unpublished works were some of his most cherished, shared only with his closest friends” he said, “and now we will help the Gygax Trust bring them to gamers.”

The new partners seem keen to find developers who are able to do justice to the works of the famed game designer. “As a gamer, I wanted to bring my father’s works to life in a medium that I enjoy.” said Gary’s son Alex Gygax, CEO of Gygax games. “I’m looking forward to working with talented developers who love my father’s work as much as I do.”

Fig, which describes itself as “the only community publishing platform created by gamers for gamers”, which offers contributors the ability to become investors in the games they publish, was founded in August 2015, and has seen some success already in the crowdfunding arena. Fig was responsible for four of the 10 most successful video game crowdfunding campaigns with Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity 2, Psychonauts 2, Wasteland 3 and Phoenix Point.

Additional information about the partnership will be available later in the year.
