First Batman: Arkham City review points to GOTY contender

The first UK review of the UK-made Batman: Arkham City arrives on the doormat of GamesMaster subscribers today.

And Future’s multi-format mag has awarded the title a colossal 97 per cent.

The score is in line with much of the secretive industry chatter surrounding the title at the moment, with all the signs pointing to Warner possibly having a Game of the Year on its hands.

"Brave, brutal, brilliant – the gold standard by which all future videogames should be judged,” is the mag’s glowing verdict of Warner anticipated action title.

The only other review of the title available at the moment stems from Australia’s Official PlayStation Magazine, which awarded it a perfect 100 per cent.

The highest rated console game of 2011 to date, according to Metacritic, is Valve’s Portal 2, which has an average of 95 per cent on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is next up with 94 per cent followed by Mass Effect 2 (94 per cent), Forza 4 (93 per cent), NBA 2K12 (92 per cent) and LittleBigPlanet 2 (92 per cent).

Batman: Arkham City will be released in the UK on October 21st.
