FIFA 18 has an 89 per cent increase to take No.2

It's the calm before the storm this week, with God of War holding onto a fifth week at No.1 ahead of the launch of both Detroit: Become Human and State of Decay 2, which will hit the market today.

God of War is now just one week away from the six weeks seen by Sony's The Last of Us launched on PS3 in 2013.

In terms of new entries to the chart, Nintendo's Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for the Switch has come in at No.3, the same position seen by the original game when it launched on WiiU. The Musou title initially launched in May 2014, and this updated re-release continues Nintendo's strategy of re-releasing all of the great games for the WiiU that failed to make an impact due to the low uptake of their last generation machine.

However, it sold less than half the boxed copies than Hyrule Warriors managed for its Wii U launch, which is a strong indicator of how severely consumers drift towards digital is affecting things. 

It was beaten to second place by FIFA 18, which has seen an 89 per cent rise in sales to hoof it into the No.2 position, sales perking up perhaps by the excitement surrounding this weekend's FA Cup final.

Elsewhere, nine retailers have come together to promote 17 titles through their LetsPlayMay campaign, with 13 of these titles hitting the top 40, and four: Lego Marvel Superheroes 2, Assassin's Creed Origins, Grand Theft Auto V and Call of Duty WWII hitting the Top Ten.
