Free Oculus Rift for early dev kit Kickstarter backers

The earliest and keenest supporters of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset have just had some very good news.

The company has confirmed that those who backed the Oculus Rift during its Kickstarter campaign at a high enough tier to get a development kit – some 6,955 people – will be handed a free ‘Kickstarter Edition’ of the final retail headset.

Included in the SKU, as is the case with the retail units, are copies of Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale.

The offer will be available to those who live in the retail machine’s 20 launch countries. Those who live elsewhere will be given the chance to express their preference for an alternative reward in an upcoming survey.

Pre-orders for Oculus Rift go live tomorrow. Presumably we will also learn how much the thing is going to cost and when it will be released.
