Future Forza games will be on both Xbox and PC

Free-to-play PC title Forza Motorsport 6: Apex isn’t going to be the last game from the racing franchise to appear on the platform.

That’s according Dan Greenawalt, Forza developer Turn 10’s creative director, who says in a video (below) that the Forza series will be appearing on both Xbox and Windows 10 going forwards.Forza Motorsport 6: Apex was leaked at the start of March.

The aforementioned video sees Turn 10 staff highlighting many of the positives of making games for Universal Windows Platform (UWP), such as only having to write code for a game once and having it work on Windows 10 and Xbox One with few problems.

UWP is Microsoft’s new ecosystem that sees developers making games with the Universal Windows Application (UWA) framework, which allows projects to work on any Microsoft device.

Microsoft’s plans in the area have been met with some criticism due to some restrictions that are built into UWP, such as UWAs – such as Quantum Break on PC – only being available on the Windows Store. The likes of Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney have warned that this could be Microsoft’s first step in monopolising PC gaming.

Developers and publishers seem to see the aforementioned benefits of developer on UWP, but warn Microsoft about closing off PC.

Moving forwards, all of our games are going to be shipping on Windows 10 and Xbox,” Greenawalt said.

The Universal Windows Platform is great for gamers and developers alike. It’s going to become even more powerful as a way of delivering amazing experiences across all of the platforms in the Windows ecosystem.”
