GAME signs three-year disc repair deal with TDR

Despite the rise of digital and various efforts by publishers to battle the popularity of pre-owned games, it looks like the sector isn’t going anywhere.

UK retailer GAME seemingly agrees, following the announcement of a new deal that it hopes will ‘boost confidence’ in the trade-in and resale of used titles.

A three-year partnership has been inked between GAME and disc repair special Total Disc Repair (TDR).

As part of the collaboration, every GAME store in the UK – more than 319 outlets in total – will be equipped with Total Disc Repair’s Hybrid 2 disc repair machine.

The hardware repairs one disc at a time, combining the traditional polishing repair method with a new patented heat technology. According to TDR, the use of the machines will save GAME (and presumably, its customers) money and time, as well as providing the ability to fix deeper scratches.

Physical discs are a key part of what we do here," saidPhil Parker, head of pre-owned at GAME.

"The popularity of the Xbox One and PS4 means that preowned will continue to have a huge presence in the gaming market and the Hybrid 2 from TDR will ensure that our customers get top quality used games.”

TDR sales manager Anthony Golden added: At the touch of a button, the Hybrid 2 will transform practically any scratched disc into one that looks and plays like new again.

"The Hybrid 2 has already been a massive success among our customers and we’re excited for what the next few years hold.”
