Games Media Academy: What you need to know

The Games Media Awards will return this autumn to celebrate journalism in this vibrant sector. And this year a new element will be added to the mix – the Games Media Academy.

A new award which aims to discover the games media stars of tomorrow has been introduced for this year’s Games Media Awards.

And the winner of the award will not only receive the accolade, but 1,250 of PAID freelance commissions from Future, Gamespot, IGN, Network-N and MCV/Develop.

Who can enter?

Anyone who is not currently paid as a writer within the games media.

Is the competition free to enter?

Yes.

How do I enter?

You simply need to send a 400-word article to gmacademy@intentmedia.co.uk. The piece can be a games preview, review, an interview, opinion piece or an analytical feature. It just has to cover video games (and by that we mean computer, console and mobile games). The closing date for entries is Friday July 26th. You will need to enclose your full name, postal address, email address and daytime telephone number.

How will I know if I’m shortlisted?

We will notify you by email at the beginning of August. 12 finalists will have their work published in a special print magazine published with MCV, which will also be available on digital formats.

How will my article be judged?

A panel of judges will be made up of leading names from Future, Gamespot, IGN, Network-N and MCV/Develop. They will choose the ultimate winner.

Awards Ceremony & Prize

The winner of the Games Media Academy will be announced at the GMA event on Thursday October 10th at Vinopolis, Bankside, London. All finalists will be invited to attend the event for free.

As well as receiving the Games Media Academy award on the night, the winner will receive freelance commissions from Future, Gamespot, IGN, Network-N and MCV/Develop, worth 1,250.
