Games Media Awards 2015 Finalists: Rising Star

As we count down to the awards event on Wednesday October 14th, MCV profiles the finalists for this year’s Games Media Awards.

Here we look at the Rising Star category, sponsored by Sega.

Chris Bratt

Chris Bratt makes videos for Eurogamer. He’s hoping to win this award so he can send his Mum a copy of MCV. She’d be chuffed with that.

Drew Gibson

Marketing professional and freelance games/tech journalist.

Holly Nielsen

Holly is a freelance journalist who started in the games industry as an intern for Ginx TV. Since then she has appeared on CNN International and BBC World News as well as frequently reviewing games for Sky News. She is also a regular contributor for the Guardian. When not talking about games she studies history at university.

Joe Donnelly

I was a plumber and gas fitter for a number of years before turning to games writing as a career change. Whilst studying Journalism at university, I wrote for voluntary sites before seeking paid work. I’ve now graduated and in the last year have written about video games for several top online and print publications including The Guardian, The New Statesman, IGN and VICE.

Kate Gray

Kate is a video producer and freelance games journalist currently working at GameSpot, where she writes, presents, produces and edits videos for the website and YouTube. In a former life, she was a games magazine journalist, writing for ONM and OXM before moving to the glamorous world of moving pictures.

Laura Kate Dale

Laura Dale is a freelance games critic, Patreon funded writer and UK Editor at Destructoid.com. She has freelanced in the past year for Polygon, Kotaku UK, The Guardian and Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Laura runs a series of successful weekly podcasts, as well as managing daily news and features content across a number of high profile outlets.

Philippa Warr

Philippa is a former women’s lifestyle journalist turned games writer. She specialises in eSports but still dabbles in "What Kim Kardashian is up to at the moment". Prior to RPS making an honest woman of her, she wrote for Wired, BBC, The Guardian, MTV, PC Gamer, Huffington Post and others.

Ria Jenkins

Ria is a student, gamer, aspiring writer and long time Mass Effect lover.
