A new report entitled the 2009 Corporate Equity Index, compiled by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, has praised three of gaming’s most high-profile companies for their treatment of gay, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.
reports that EA, Microsoft and retailer GameStop were amongst the many companies scoring top marks in the report, which bases its calculations on criteria such as firm’s non-discrimination policies, diversity training, partner benefits and interaction with the LGBT community.
Other companies scoring 100 per cent included Apple, Google, Time Warner, Viacom, Dell, Symantec, eBay and Yahoo.
The entertainment/electronic media sector in general fared well in the report, with its five featured companies averaging a rating of 85 per cent. If you’re interested, the mail and freight sector fared the worse with its one represented firm scoring just 58 per cent.
Other games, retail or technology-related companies not faring so well in the report include Vivendi (35 per cent), Best Buy (72 per cent), Acer (50 per cent), Toys R Us (65 per cent), McAfee (53 per cent), Wal-Mart (40 per cent), Circuit City (55 per cent), Avnet (30 per cent) and Nokia (50 per cent).
