Games4EU launches; aims to push back against Brexit

A new organisation set up to push back against Brexit has launched, with Games4EU’s focus specifically geared towards the impact an exit from the European Union could have on the games industry.

The non-profit organisation’s aims are, unsurprisingly, focused around a pro-EU stance, arguing that the benefits for the UK games industry staying in the European Union far outweigh the challenges of leaving.

With that in mind, Games4EU’s goal is to become a focal point for pro-EU discussion and activism for developers and publishers who support the push to keep the United Kingdom in the Union. The organisation also wants to demonstrate what harm could befall the UK games industry, and will be involved in the wider pushback against Brexit, regardless of the form it takes.

G4EU’s role has been planned out over the next couple of years, with policies to arrive along with campaigning and participation in events such as the People’s Vote March, to take place October 20.

The organisation was set up by industry figures Tracey McGarrigan, veteran comms and events manager previously of Bossa, Jas Purewal, tech/digital lawyer and business advisor, and George Osborn, event director and founder of Go Editorial, a content marketing firm.

With around 80 per cent of games industry professionals voting to remain in the EU and a need to continue to attract the best and brightest talent from around the world to support the UK industry, it’s easy to understand why an group such as Games4EU would be set up.
