GameStop clearly doesn’t like the thought of next gen consoles that won’t play used games, but the retailer also believes players aren’t keen on the idea either.
VG247 reports the company’s CFO Rob Lloyd spoke at Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, where he shared his thoughts on the growing possibility that the next Xbox will block used games.
"Consumers want the ability to play pre-owned games, they want portability in their games; they want to play physical games," he said. "And to not have those things would be a substantial reason for them not to purchase a new console."
Lloyd backed up his skepticism with internal research that revealed 60 per cent of customers wouldn’t be interested in purchasing a console that blocks used games.
GameStop posted a sales drop of 4.6 per cent for last year’s holiday stretch – with numbers showing a drop in pre-owned titles, but a rise in digital sales.
