Gran Turismo 5 sales pass 6m

Developer Polyphony Digital has revealed that total global sales of Gran Turismo 5 have now passed 6m units.

The exact worldwide sales figure now stands at 6.37m copies.

On a regional basis by far the biggest success has come from Europe where the game has sold 3.97m units. This is followed by North America (1.58m), Japan (600k) and other Asian markets (200k).

Nonetheless, GT5 still has some way to go before it can hope to challenge the best-selling entries in the series.

PS3 title Gran Turismo 3: A-spec remains the most successful with lifetime global sales of 14.89m units.

Other hits include Gran Turismo 4 (11.19m), the first Gran Turismo (10.85m), Gran Turismo 2 (9.37m). The lowest selling game in the series is GT4 Prologue (1.4m).

Curiously, GT4 is the best selling version in Europe with sales of 6.68m.

The most recent patch for GT5 introduced a host of new features such as the ability to take charge of B-spec races remotely via Remote Play. This works both with PSP and on PC.

User-created courses can now also be raced online, the penalties in Special Events have been increased, reward points will be dished out in greater frequency across the career mode and blue ticks will now show what cars you own from the pre-race requirements list.
