Gran Turismo Sport gets release date; beta scrapped

There will be a Gran Turismo game on PS4 this year.

Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi has said that Gran Turismo Sport will be released on November 18th, promising plenty of innovations. The last time we saw the series was Gran Turismo 6, which hit PS3 after the release of PS4 in 2013.

The game’s 137 ‘premium’ car models have been remodelled from scratch since GT6. 19 locations are also promised. New this time out is a Forza-like livery editor. The photo mode has also been redone and has a new name – ‘Scapes’. Over 1000 locations are available for staging the snaps and there’s no limit on how many car can be placed on screen.

The pictures will save in 4K, too, although Yamauchi would not be drawn on whether this means that the game is being made with PS4 Neo in mind. VR support will hopefully be ready for launch, however.

There’s less positive news about the beta, however. Videogamer reports that it’s been scrapped altogether as rolling it out would have meant the game slipping to 2017.

"That’s something that I’m very, very sorry about," Yamauchi said. "In order to do a beta test we have to make a gold master of the beta test code, and for us it actually takes as much effort as to finish the real master code of the actual game. By omitting that it saves us about three months of time."
