Grid 2 confirmed by Codemasters

Iain Smith, an associate producer at Codemasters who has worked on Dirt 3 and Dirt Showdown, has confirmed that Grid 2 is in production.

Talking to Inc Gamers, Smith said that there were two core game teams at Codemasters; one working on Dirt, while the other was working on an undisclosed title. When asked if that latter was Grid 2, he replied, Yeah, it is”.

Last year, Senior VP Jamie McDonald had told Develop that Codemasters’ Southam studio was focussed on the Dirt and Grid franchises, but didn’t divulge any further details. This is the first confirmation from the developer-publisher of Grid 2 being in development.

Grid was released in 2008 and received critical and commercial success for its brand of high-intensity racing that blended arcade and simulation gameplay. The game stands at an impressive 87 on Metacritic.

Here’s hoping for an official reveal at E3 next week.
