Here’s what FIFA 16 is doing differently this year

EA has released the first gameplay details for this year’s instalment of the FIFA franchise.

FIFA 16 promises a completely redesigned defence engine, more than likely as a response to the changes to defending implemented in recent games. A feature called Defensive Agility brings balance in movement between attackers and defenders”, using 25 new changes to how defenders move.

Defenders will also play as a unit, making more informed decisions between marking an opponent and covering danger areas.

Similar decisions are also made in midfield where AI players will make a choice between defending the channels and shutting players down. Passing from midfield is apparently now more incisive as well offering up greater opportunities for attacking on the break.

Also new is a No Touch Dribbling mechanic that allows players to let the ball run, with a feint and the created space offering the chance to bypass defenders.

Newer players will be helped by an optional in-game trainer that can recommend the best move at any given in-game moment, all of which are suggested by an on-screen button prompt.

This year we’re looking at every single role on the pitch, evaluating where we wanted to innovate with all the feedback from fans, and setting out to develop the most balanced and exciting football game in the long history of the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise,” EA Sports FIFA’s VP and GM David Rutter said.

Whether fans prefer short and precise passes through the middle, or getting it outside and whipping in crosses, the beauty of FIFA 16 is that it offers fans the freedom to play their way and find success on the pitch.”

FIFA 16 will be released on September 26th.
