HTC Vive is to boost the amount of revenue share developers receive on its global Viveport store to celebrate its one-year anniversary, the company has announced. This is in addition to a swathe of new features for developers that will be rolling out very soon.
From October until the end of the year, Viveport will waive its platform fee, allowing developers to keep all the profits during the 2017 holiday season.
Meanwhile, Viveport Arcade Manager has now entered open beta. This is the company's proprietary content management and distribution platform for out-of-home VR experiences that, so far, has only been trialled in a select number of countries. What's more, Viveport will be increasing the developer revenue share from 50 per cent to 70 per cent – that's in addition to all developers receiving 100 per cent of their profits throughout the holiday season.
Viveport has also announced the early release of the Viveport Scene SDK, which will help developers create immersive VR previews that will be showcased in the Viveport store, such as immersive 360-degree preview images.
From launching the first-ever subscription model for a VR app store to exceeding 1,000 titles available globally, to over 26,000 registered developers in our community, Viveport has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year,” said Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport.
We enter year two with exciting new features and improvements to continue our commitment to providing the best VR experience for Viveport customers and the most monetization options for developers.”
Drew Bamford, Corporate Vice President of HTC Vive's Creative Labs added:Our research has shown that customers vastly prefer VR previews over screenshots and videos to inform their purchasing decision. We are thrilled that the Viveport Scene SDK will provide developers with a new avenue for discoverability and engagement on the Viveport store.”
