IeSF building eSports athlete’s commission in bid to get eSports to the Olympics

The International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) has announced that it is working on an eSports athlete’s commission, in an attempt to get eSports to the Olympics in the future.

The commission will aim to give players a say when building international competitive rule sets and generally allow for more standardisation across all of eSports. The International Olympic Committee effectively requires having a commission like this before they will consider a sport for inclusion at the Olympics. It should also help legitimise eSports in many countries, which will hopefully see players receive the same treatment as traditional sports players when it comes to things such as Visas.

The Athletes commission is not only where the voices of the athletes heard, but it is an important sector which can advise IeSF in taking its steps for the future e-Sports development,” said Alex Lim, Secretary General of IeSF. IeSF will be in full support to establish of the Athletes Commission and will make sure to be in constant communication with one another. We would like to encourage athletes and ask for continuous support for the commission to be formed in the proper manner and direction.”

The initial stages of setting up the athlete’s commission will begin at the IeSF world championship in October this year.
