Smartphone sales in India grew at 166.8% in 2013, making it the fastest growing market in the world, research firm Gartner has reported.
Worldwide smartphone sales grew to 968 million units last year, an increase of 42.3% over 2012, with the most robust growth coming from developing regions, such as Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe. China saw a growth of 83.6% on 2013.
Samsung continues to be the dominant smartphone manufacturer around the world, increasing its market share to 29.5%, and Android continues to be the most used operating system, with 78.4% market share.
Despite the launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Apple’s market share dropped to 17.8% in 2013, with its iOS platform accounting for 15.6%.
