iPhone 4 leak suspect charged by police

Way back in April last year tech blog Gizmodo shocked the tech world with its first and very much unofficial look at Apple’s still unannounced iPhone 4. Now the man behind the scoop has been charged by US police.

Brian Hogan sold the handset for $5,000 after supposedly finding it in a bar. He has now been charged with handling stolen goods and the misappropriation of lost property.

Charges also being raised against Robert Wallower, who was found guilty of shopping the device around to various blogs.

Both could now face up to a year in jail and fines totalling $1,000.

Gizmodo and its employees, who were the first to take the bait, will not be charged. The site’s editor Jason Chen had his house searched and possessions confiscated in the immediate aftermath of the report.
