Nintendo of Japan has filed lawsuits against five Japanese firms who have been importing and selling equipment that allows illegal games to be played on the Nintendo DS – such as the popular R4 cards.
According to Reuters, Nintendo and 54 other Japanese software companies filed the lawsuit earlier today at the Tokyo District Court.
R4 cards – along with its numerous sister products – allows gamers to circumnavigate the DS' in-built copy protection system. The devices have received much criticism in the UK over the past few weeks, with retailers calling for a total retail ban on R4 cards.
ELSPA and Nintendo have said they are monitoring the situation in the UK.
