King tops in TV ads over Sony, Microsoft – report

Candy Crush Saga creator King runs more television advertisements than any other video game company out there, according to advertising metrics company iSpot.tv.

Games Beat reports on the ad firm’s findings, which state King commercials have aired on US national television more than 34,000 times this year. Microsoft ran just 7,500 ads, while Sony scheduled 3,000 spots during the first three quarters of 2014.

Microsoft still outspent King – $66m to 55m – due to the quality of the spots purchased. Microsoft focused on expensive spots during prime time and major sports events, while King spread out its plethora of advertisements throughout smaller cable networks.

Sony ended up spending $47m during the period, Clash of Clans maker Supercell invested $29m and Activision Blizzard dropped $26m.
