Doggedly refusing to buy into the current gloomy narrative surrounding the company, Konami has had the audacity to post some very strong quarterly numbers.

Profit for the quarter ending June soared 159.9 per cent to 4.28bn, while revenue climbed 5.3 per cent to 51.2bn. Konami's games arm, Digital Entertainment, also climbed. It was up 16.7 per cent to 23.8m.

Mobile was the main driver of the success, with steady sales reported for the likes of PES Club Manager, Disney Tsum-Tsum, Star Wars: Force Collection and baseball title Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu – the latter of which has now been downloaded over 13m times.

It also claimed to have great expectations” for upcoming console and PC pair Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and PES 2016, the latter of which has made some decent ground on EA's rival FIFA series with the acquisition of some good licenses.

Common opinion would prefer to depict Konami as a company in crisis, with a recent Nikkei report hinting at some appalling management practices and the truth about the company's high-profile fallout with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima still having not surfaced.
