Konami profits rise 88%

Konami has posted financial results for its fiscal six months ending September 30th, with a year-on-year increase in profit of 87.8 per cent.

Overall profits jumped to YEN 4.2bn (32m) from YEN 2.2bn (16.8m) which was generated at the same period last year. Net sales across all segments rose to YEN 115.8bn (885.4m), up 1.6 per cent from last year’s YEN 113.9bn (870.9m).

Across its digital entertainment, health and fitness, and gaming and system divisions, the latter performed strongest with a 4.1 per cent year-on-year rise in profit from YEN 8.9bn (68m) to YEN 9.3bn (71.1m).

The Pro Evolution Soccer publisher cited its profit rise to strong sales of PES 2011 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, with romance simulation game Love Plus Plus performing well in Japan.

In its outlook for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2011, Konami said it will continue to focus on the expanding overseas video game software market.”

It listed its key upcoming releases as Karaoke Revolution Glee, Def Jam Rapstar and Metal Gear Arcade.

In a statement Konami added: A difficult business climate persisted in the environment surrounding Konami and its subsidiaries. There is uncertainty over the future due to factors such as the impact of the appreciation of the Yen and suppressed consumer spending.”
