Leaked Radeon HD 9970 specs point to possible Titan killer

An apparent set of specs for AMD’s upcoming Radeon HD 9770 graphics card suggests a killer GPU may be on the way.

MaximumPC reports that the leaked numbers point to a card that betters Nvidia’s current market leading pair of the GTX 780 and the GTX Titan.

Rumours point to the 9970 including a 20nm Volcanic Islands GPU clocked at 1GHz, 4GB of DDR5 clocked at 5GHz on a 512-bit bus, 4,096 shader units, 256 texture mapping units and 64 render output processors.

9970 sample units are rumoured to already be in the hands of manufacturers with all signs pointing to an October release with lots of Battlefield 4 marketing activity planned.

However, take these numbers with a rather large pinch of salt. There are several things here that don’t seem to make sense, such as the use of 20nm, the memory configuration.
