Learning Without Frontiers event cancelled

Digital learning event Learning Without Frontiers, which was due to take place this June, has been cancelled.

It would have been the eighth time the event had place. The decision has been taken due to the failure to attract sufficient commercial sponsorship support”, something the organisers blame on the current harsh financial climate.

There is hope that the 2014 LWF Global Summit in Singapore could still take place.

It is with sincere regret that we must inform our community that the Learning Without Frontiers Summit in London will not now take place this June,” the official statement read.

You don’t need us to remind you of the current challenges facing the economy in general, and education in particular. But sadly, due to this unusually difficult economic environment we have been unable to secure sufficient commercial sponsorship support for LWF London early enough to be certain that we could run a superb event to the exacting standard we expect.

As you might imagine, a creative, future-facing event like LWF is dependent upon the support of commercial sponsors to make the numbers add up and the event viable. We had already taken the bold decision to significantly reduce the ticket pricing to keep the event, and the crucial debate about the future of learning, as accessible as possible and to as many as possible.

Therefore the need to secure early commercial support was paramount and, despite our best efforts and the goodwill of the community we serve, our regular supporters, [and our fantastic faculty of speakers], we have simply run out of time.

The decision to close LWF has been one of the hardest for all everyone concerned – but sadly a necessary one. Happily, there have been so many highlights in LWF’s history that it would be impossible to name one, or even a few, but I believe that LWF and its community have made a difference by contributing to, and creating the space for, vital dialogue to occur.

Those who had already purchased tickets for June will be contacted and refunded. Enquiries can be made at info@CloserStillMedia.com
