Lucas rejected Wookie superhero game

In one of the brainstorming sessions that eventually lead to the commercially successful Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the series' creator George Lucas reportedly rejected a proposal that would have seen hairy superstar Chewbacca taking centre stage in his own game.

Specifically, the game that was being considered would have seen the warm-hearted Wookie embark on a superhero-style rampage in a title inspired by Vivendi's Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

At one point we were kicking around an idea where you were playing a Wookie,” LucasArts' Haden Blackman told 1UP.

It was going to be a big open world, and you'd be running around, and you'd be able to grab the heads of AT-STs and throw them at stormtroopers. It was a very over the top-style superhero game.”

However, George Lucas himself was not a fan of the proposal: He just looked at me and said: 'I just spent the last half hour talking to you about the importance of characters talking to each other, and you pitch me a game idea where the main character can't talk?'”

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II will, as it was confirmed earlier today, be released in October.
