Social networking game Madden NFL Superstars has launched on Facebook today.
It's the American football equivalent of FIFA Superstars which launched earlier this year – with both titles developed by casual firm Playfish. Madden NFL Superstars features 1,500 players from 32 NFL teams and allows users to play against friends online.
The news comes as EA Sports posts an increase in revenue generated by the Madden franchise. Retail sales of Madden NFL 11 rose five per cent year-on-year on all platforms, while digital revenues are up more than 200 per cent.
EA Sports attributed the online growth to the Madden NFL Ultimate Team DLC which was available in last year's instalment of the series.
President of EA Sports Peter Moore said on his blog: I'm particularly excited about today's launch because it comes at a time when fans are showing such a strong appetite for new online experiences and new platforms.
We continue to reach new milestones in online play – we're hosting more than two million online game sessions each day for Madden NFL 11 on consoles – and we hit the top of Apple's App store charts right out of the gate with Madden NFL 11.
These are great trends, and I'm proud of the work by our development teams to keep delivering innovative new experiences in a changing marketplace.”
Madden NFL 11 was released in the UK on August 13th for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii.
