Madworld to become established Sega franchise

Despite failing to trouble the higher echelons of the UK charts upon its release last month, Sega has heaped praise upon its Wii title Madworld and admitted that the brand could become an established franchise for the publisher going forwards.

Speaking to Venturebeat, Sega of America’s vice president of marketing Sean Ratcliffe stated: The first set of data for Mad World is very encouraging. If it resonates with the audience we absolutely want to make that into a franchise.

I think it’s unique, and there are many aspects of that game which are sort of pushing boundaries. And it’s just great fun.”

Madworld is developed by Platinum Games, a young Osaka-based Japanese studio formed by key ex-members of Capcom’s now closed Clover Studio.

As one of the more violent titles on Wii it has attracted a fair amount of mainstream press attention, though the specialist press were more interested in its stylised black and white visuals.
