MCV GameTime: Industry TV advertising monitor (week ending Sept 16th)

This week we take a look at which reality TV shows advertisers have been targeting, as well as the campaign for Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

This information is provided by specialist communication firmGeneration Mediawhich focuses on the entertainment and leisure industries.

Games and consoles TV advertising continues to recover with 425 Men 16 to 34 TVRs for the w/e August 28th compared to 294 TVRs the previous week. This is a growth of 44 per cent week-on-week.

Men 16 to 34 TVRs recorded for the w/e August 28th remained flat (425 TVRs for the same week in 2010) with nearly the same amount of campaigns on air (14 vs 12).

Deus Ex drove the market this week registering 117 TVRs (28 per cent) of the 425 TVRs; a slight dip from the 145 TVRs the campaign delivered the previous week.

The overall increase in total Men 16 to 34 TVRs can also be attributed to other new campaigns such as Inazuma Eleven.

Have games and console advertisers been using the recent spate of reality TV shows to enhance their media campaigns?

The charts (below) document the top performing spots around reality shows for the two heaviest campaigns of w/e August 28th.

With the publicity surrounding Celebrity Big Brother, it is no surprise to see that it is the highest rated programme on Nintendo’s 3DS schedule.

Though Square Enix heavily supported Deus Ex the w/e August 28th, there were no spots in either of the highly publicised TV programmes (Celebrity Big Brother and The X Factor).

3DS TV spots in Celebrity Big Brother delivered 9.6m individual ad hits, proving to be a valuable coverage programme. Expect further updates when more data is available from The X Factor and ITV’s Red or Black.
