Kaz Hirai resigns from Sony Computer Entertainment
One of the key figures in the recent history of PlayStation has distanced himself from the business.
Kaz Hirai has resigned his position of chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment. His role as Sony Corporation president remains unaffected.
He will retain the role of part-time board member of SCE, meaning that a small link remains between the pair.
Hirai played a key role in stabilising Sony’s games business after the departure of the father of PlayStation” Ken Kuturagiin April 2007.

Codemasters’ Wigmore joins Qinqo Europe
Jeremy Wigmore has joined prepaid card specialist Qinqo as senior vice president for Europe. Wigmore most recently served as EMEA vice president of publishing at Britsoft firm Codemasters.
He boasts more than 20 years of senior sales and management experience, having also worked at Atari and GT Interactive. The appointment comes as Qinqo continues to bring its products to new markets across Europe.
I feel extremely honoured to be joining such an innovative start-up as Qinqo,” said Wigmore. This is a very exciting period for digital entertainment and the fact that Qinqo is not only serving games, but also music, mobile, movies and ebooks makes this a very logical next step.”

Imagine unveils new X360 team
The Bournemouth-based publisher has revamped its Xbox editorial team after merging two of its magazines together. As of next month, 360 Magazine and X360 have been combined under the latter brand.
The new X360 team will be led by editor Dan Howdle, who previously held the same role on 360 Magazine. He’ll be supported by games editor Luke Albigs, who joins from GamesTM.Also on the team is senior staff writer David Lynch and sub-editor Rebecca Richards.
Having been involved with both magazines throughout the last five years, it would be fair to say that X360 and 360 Magazine have always occupied their own individual niche – there have always been elements each has realised with greater effectiveness than the other,” said Howdle.
The new X360 combines the power of these unique strengths into one highly desirable whole. I could not be more thrilled at being a part of the team that’s going to make X360’s future a reality.”
Thumbstar Games hires Kearney
The mobile developer has hired Kirsten Kearney as digital communications manager.
She boasts more than 15 years of experience in media and entertainment – eight of which have been spent in the games industry, working for firms such as Future Publishing and Ubisoft. Kearney has also worked at the BBC and Orange.
Thumbstar Games’ marketing director Phil Brannelly said: I have had the pleasure of working with Kirsten previously and I couldn’t think of anyone better to take on the role as the voice of Thumbstar across the digital and social space.
Dialogue with our consumers is absolutely key to Thumbstar’s future success and Kirsten’s wealth of experience in journalism and communications will prove invaluable in achieving this.”
