Konami has revealed a significant sales bias for March release Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.
Its latest financial report reveals that the game sold three times as many copies on Sony’s PS4 as it did on Xbox One. Eurogamer reports that specific sales numbers were not revealed, although 570k Metal Gear games were sold in the quarter – up from 190k the year before.
In total PS4 games accounted for 12 per cent of Konami’s total software sales compared to Xbox One’s four per cent – meaning Ground Zeroes itself accounted for 16 per cent, as it was the company’s only game for these platforms.
The sales fall roughly in line with recent numbers for the next-gen market, where PS4 was found to be outselling Xbox One by the same ratio worldwide.
At the same time, note that Metal Gear – much like some other Japanese franchises such as PES and Final Fantasy – typically enjoys greater popularity on PlayStation."
