Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes release date announced

Konami has revealed when Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be sneaking into stores.

Konami’s game will be released for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 in spring 2014.

The publisher also revealed the link between Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain – the former will act as a prologue to the events of the latter. The title will also introduce new gameplay elements and get fans used to the more open level design seen in The Phantom Pain.

The advanced capabilities of the Fox Engine have allowed me to tell the new story in a new way,” says series creator Hideo Kojima. There will be a significant difference in what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain brings to the series, so we want to ease players into the new open world environment and its potential.

As such, Ground Zeroes has been designed to introduce key elements, allowing them to fully benefit from all that the new game will offer.”

The title will be released both physically and digitally for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The boxed PS3 and Xbox 360 editions will retail for 29.99 while the digital editions will set fans back 19.99. The next-gen digital versions will cost 29.99.

It’s interesting to note that Konami is discounting the price of the current-gen digital versions. Many have often argued that digital games should logically be cheaper than their physical counterparts – after all, there are no physical material costs and digital logistics are significantly easier (and cheaper) than shifting boxes.

Despite this, publishers have traditionally shied away from undercutting retail, presumably for fear of upsetting retail partners.

Times are certainly changing..
