Microsoft won't be making a League of Legends HoloLens viewer

Publish date:

A proposal to make a HoloLens application that allows its wearer to observe League of Legends matches won't be commissioned by Microsoft.

The idea was pitched as part of the ‘Share Your Idea' HoloLens initiative in which the community is encouraged to share thoughts and ideas about possible applications for Microsoft's augmented reality headset.

One such pitch was for a LoL viewer that displayed the entire play map, with wearers able to walk around the battlefield and peer at specific parts of the action. It's by far the most popular pitch to date in the scheme.

We love this idea, the creativity, and the level of support it has received from League of Legends community,” Microsoft has now said. However, in order for Microsoft to open source the code to the community as promised, we cannot build a project which is based on existing intellectual property.”

Other ideas include a virtual piano teacher, home decorating assistant, a driving HUD, an app that allows you to test drive cars, virtual subtitles for films and TV, an aid for those with impaired hearing that identifies the source of nearby sounds and an app that allows folk to have Cortana actually in the room with them.
