Midway turnaround continues apace

US publisher Midway has posted its results for the second quarter ended June 30th, boasting net revenues of $31.8 million, up from the $25.9m of last year. Losses also improved, coming in at $14.3m, half the $31m of a year ago.

The firm outlined the US release of The Lord of the Rings Online, and the worldwide success of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Hour of Victory, Hot Brain and Touchmaster as particular successes.

In addition to successful second quarter launches including The Lord of the Rings Online and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii, we continued to extend our casual games business,” said CEO David Zucker. Along with Touchmaster brought to the Nintendo DS and Hot Brain for the PSP, we released six of our classic titles on the PlayStation Online Store, and we have become one of the top sellers of classic arcade games on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade.”

The news comes as Zucker revealed his concerns over the PS3’s sales performance, telling gamesindustry.biz: "We would not be the only publisher to tell you that we’re a little concerned about the take-up of the PS3."
