Minecraft Pocket Edition sales hit 5m, franchise closing in on 20m mark

Minecraft Pocket Edition is selling well, really well.

In fact, it appears the game is selling on par with its PC and XBLA counterparts. Mojang’s Johan Bernhardsson revealed earlier today the game had reached 5m sales.

The mobile version of Mojang’s title initially launched in November of 2011, during the developer’s inaugural Minecon event.

The stripped down version for iOS and Android contributes its sizable figure to the PC version’s 8m units and the 360 edition’s 4.5m copies. Combined, Minecraft is boasting at least 17.5m sales across all platforms.

The way all three versions continue to move, surpassing the 20m milestone appears a foregone conclusionfor the indiephenomenon.
