Miyamoto explains Nintendo NX E3 no-show

Nintendo’s famed designer Shigeru Miyamoto has shed some light on why its new console was not shown at E3 2016.

Speaking to investors, Miyamoto said – as translated by Twitter user Cheesemeister3K (below) – that the firm was worried about giving away too much information early for fear of imitators.

That Nintendo is so anxious about the NX’s technology being copied makes what it actually is all the more intriguing. As it stands we know very little about NX, save that it is set for a March 2017 release date.

There are a fair share of rumours about the machine, however. One suggests that Nintendo delayed production in order to add VR support. Miyamoto also said during the investor Q&A that Nintendo is researching virtual reality, so that particular rumour is probably false.

Then there’s conflicting rumours that the NX will or will not have a optical drive.

Nintendo has said that NX is not about the specs, which is reminiscent of when it rolled out the technically inferior yet wildly popular Wii.

Ubisoft has also said that the NX will recapture the Wii audience.
