Japan could soon be home to its second billion dollar mobile franchise.

GungHo's Puzzle & Dragons currently stands alone as the nation's single seven-figure mobile hero, but VentureBeat reports that Mixi's Monster Strike currently makes $3.8m per day and has, since its launch in October 2013, been downloaded over 30m times.

Mixi's last financial year saw sales up by 828.9 per cent, with Q4 revenues passing $350m.

The game was recently expanded into other Asian markets and a 3DS version is in development. The 3DS version of rival Puzzle & Dragons, incidentally, has so far sold in the region of 2m copies.

However, while Monster Strike is making good progress in the Chinese market, its wider international impact has been far less pronounced.

Very similar to GungHo, Mixi does have a hard time in one important area: internationalization,” analyst Serkan Toto told the site. Months after launch there, we are not hearing much about Monster Strike's performance in key regions like the US or China, and I don't think I have to tell you what that means.”

Monster Strike is was created by former Capcom employee and Street Fighter II producer Yoshiki Okamoto.
