MS angers the Angry Birds

Publish date:

The makers of hit iPhone title Angry Birds have lashed out at Xbox 360 platform holder Microsoft for its unauthorised use of an icon representing the title in promotional material for its Windows Phone 7 platform.

We have NOT committed to doing a Windows Phone 7 version,” a tweet from the developer read. Microsoft put the Angry Birds icon on their site without our permission.”

However, in what could be quite a telling addition later in the day Rovio added:

[It has] nothing to do with if we do or don't [release the game on Windows Phone 7], it's just that we decide that ourselves.”

Microsoft later confirmed that the move was an error, telling TechFlash: It appears information was mistakenly posted to Microsoft's website, and has been removed.”

It was confirmed in August that the 59p App Store had clocked sales in excess of 6.5m downloads. In fact, it's so popular that it has even managed to secure the affections of former Tottenham and England midfielder Paul Gascoigne. And some fella called David Cameron.
