New Star Wars MMO announced

Despite the struggles experienced by Star Wars galaxies since its debut in 2003, Sony Online Entertainment is to release a brand new MMO based on George Lucas’ hypnotic universe.

Called Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, this new take on the MMO formula very much reflects the modern face of mass-market online gaming – it’s free-to-play, and centres on the more recent child-friendly Clone Wars IP rather than the brand’s classic film heritage.

Players can choose to play either as a Jedi, Padawan or Clone Tropper (though who on earth is going to choose a Clone Trooper over a Jedi is a total mystery). The game will feature famous characters such as Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker and Master Yoda.

Minigames will very much take centre stage and will be based on the franchise’s most recognisable elements such as lightsaber duelling and speeder bike racing. Customisable droid companions will also be available.

Clone Wars Adventures is the ultimate destination for fans of The Clone Wars series and will bring the action and excitement of the show to players online so they can experience The Clone Wars universe firsthand," SOE president John Smedley stated.

We’ve worked with LucasArts and Lucasfilm to create a virtual world that is seamlessly integrated with the TV series and a true extension of the show. It’s also just flat-out fun to play.”

A monthly subscription will also be available, though what extras this will offer is yet to be revealed.
