New Xbox One controller colours announced

Microsoft has announced two new Xbox One controller designs. The Ocean Shadow Special Edition and the Winter Forces Special Edition will come to retailers worldwide next month, and will retail at 59.99 each.

The Winter Forces Special Edition is launching on February 16th and has a light and dark grey artic camo pattern, while the Ocean Shadow Special Edition has a matt black top case and sides that fade to a light blue metallic finish. This controller will launch a little later on February 23rd. The buttons, triggers and d-pad also have a glossy black finish, while the ABXY and menu buttons have light blue highlights.

GAME, Argos and Amazon will be selling the Ocean Shadow Special Edition controller in the UK, while GAME, Argos, Amaxon, Dixons and Tesco will be selling the Winter Forces Special Edition model.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced another new pair of colour variations for its Xbox One controller: the Xbox Wireless Controller – Red and Xbox Wireless Controller – Green/Orange.

The Red model, which launched on January 19th for 49.99, has a two-tone matte red finish along with some glossy highlights on the triggers, bumpers, d-pad and thumbsticks.

The Green/Orange model, on the other hand, has a green matte finish as well as orange accents behind the thumbsticks. Like the Red controller, the Green/Orange controller has gloss highlights on the triggers, bumpers, d-pad and thumbsticks. However, those orange accents will set customers back another 15, as the Green/Orange controller will retail for 54.99 starting from February 9th.

Customers will also be able to use the Xbox Accessories app to take advantage of Xbox’s custom button mapping feature on these two colour variation models, which is currently available to download from the Xbox or Windows stores.

This will come as good news for players wanting to spice up their controller collection, but it’s still a small consolation for those still waiting for Xbox’s Design Lab to make its way to the UK. Originally announced at E3 last year, the Xbox Design Lab allows players to create fully customised controllers in whatever colour scheme they want. Microsoft boasted at the time that players would have eight million different combos to choose from, and there would also be the option to engrave a controller for an additional $9.99.

The service is currently only available in the US, but Microsoft said that those in the UK and Europe would have to wait "until at least next year" (2017) before the service made its way here. Right now, though, there’s still no official word on when the service will receive a UK launch.
