Nintendo issues takedown demand for student Super Mario 64 HD project

A recreation of the first level from Super Mario 64 made with the Unity engine must be removed from the internet, Nintendo has said.

Super Mario 64 HD was created by Roystan Ross as an attempt to learn Unity. It uses the level structure of 64 and character models from Mario Galaxy although the majority of art and animation was done by Ross himself.

However, despite expressly stating that the project would never be officially released or monetised, Nintendo Life reports that Nintendo has issued a takedown notice to the site hosting the demo – which has complied by removing all associated files.

The project can still currently be accessed from Ross’ personal site, but it is likely Nintendo will pursue that next.
