Nintendo out of Leipzig

Nintendo has pulled out of this year’s Leipzig Games Convention.

The platform holder said it wished the show all the best, but had chosen this year to concentrate on smaller, local events and national promotional tours.

During the past months, the company has gained many positive experiences with smaller, local events and national promotional tours, where new gaming concepts for the Nintendo DS and Wii have been presented,” Nintendo said in a statement.

According to Next-Gen.biz, Nintendo said that during the second half of 2008 it will continue to opt for a Germany-wide presence instead of attending one central fair, therefore allowing a wider range of people in differing locations to experience its games first hand.

In order to inform our media and trade partners about upcoming titles as soon as possible, Nintendo Germany will start a nationwide road show right after E3 2008,” said Dr. Bernd Fakesch, general manager of Nintendo Germany.

Over the years we have enjoyed working with the Messe Leipzig, and would like to thank them for the great job they have done,” added Dr. Fakesch.

Nintendo said that decision does not affect its attendance at 2009 in Cologne, which German publisher body the BIU is backing instead of Leipzig.
