Nintendo talks down VR NX rumours

Rumours that NX was pushed back to incorporate VR appear to have been dispelled by Nintendo.

We’ve been looking at the VR space since the days of the Virtual Boy,” American boss Reggie Fils-Aime told Bloomberg, as reported by VG247. With us, we want to make sure our next content is going to be mainstream, mass-market approachable, and when something like VR is at that point, you can expect Nintendo to be there.”

The exec added that, in his opinion, current VR tech is best suited to short snack” experiences and not the types of games it wants to make.

He added that the Wii, for instance, adopted gyroscopic technologies at a point where it was out there and established and ready to be taken to the mainstream.

A recent report claimed that NX had been pushed back to March 2017 in order to add a VR component. In February the company admitted it was looking” at VR technology.

However, its message thus far has been clear. Last June Reggie said that current VR is not fun and not social”. Miyamoto that same month said that VR was not a good fit for the living room.
