Oculus is funding development of over 20 VR games

Virtual reality company Oculus is funding development of about two dozen” virtual reality games via its Oculus Studios program.

We have a pretty big investment into Oculus Studios’ triple-A, high production value games,” Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe told Gamasutra. Oculus VR is a gaming-built, owned and operated company. We’re developers at heart.”

Apparently the projects are a mixture of games that were pitched to the company and games that Oculus itself has conceived and approached a development partner to make. The company has also invested in a number of non-exclusive VR titles and established a $10m indie developer fund.

Iribe also moved to quell concerns that the company’s acquisition at the hands of Facebook has forced away from pure game development and toward broader entertainment output.

While the company has diversified into a wider range of entertainment products, Iribe reiterated that games remain the primary focus and that the company was built and is staffed by game developers.
