Official: Future will close CVG website, news and reviews now coming to GamesRadar+

Computerandvideogames.com will close, Future has confirmed.

It follows news of several redundancies at the firm, including the website’s editor last week.

CVG was a hugely popular brand in the UK and is a games media icon that has lasted 33 years.

Future will now add news and reviews content – which is what CVG specialised in – to its GamesRadar+ website as of February. GamesRadar+ already combines the GamesRadar site with the websites of SFX and Total Film. Some CVG content will be migrated across to this new portal.

Gamesradar+ launched on November 18th and Future claims that the site has seen page views increase by 60 per cent month-on-month to over 100 million and user numbers increase by 42 per cent to eight million. For the UK alone, page views have increased by 90 per cent and users have now passed 1m.

CVG’s reviews and news content will be added to the website from February 2015.

There will be two additional jobs created for the Gamesradar+ site, including executive editor, news and news lead.

In GamesRadar+’s short life, we have already seen significant growth in users and our audience has responded extremely positively to the new Film and TV channels,” said Sophia Tong, Editor-in-Chief of GamesRadar+.

Now it’s time to move on to the next step. Investing further in our news and reviews content is a key step in realising our ambition for GamesRadar+.”

Declan Gough, Head of Content & Marketing, Future Games, Music, Film, added: The new GamesRadar+ has seen huge audience growth and has exceeded all our engagement expectations.

"The results to date have been hugely encouraging as we move to the next stage of development. The new channels see us migrate the online audiences from Edge, Official Playstation, Total Xbox and CVG into GamesRadar+, creating an exceptionally powerful games offering and one that is totally unique. GamesRadar+ will showcase the exceptional talents of the 50+ Games, Film, TV and entertainment journalists we have at Future.”
