Original Pokémon games back on top in Japan for series’ 20th anniversary

It’s 1996 again – Pokmon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow took the No.1 spot in Japan last week according to data from Famitsu.

The four titles on 3DS sold 69,234 units between them, but didn’t result in a substantial increase in 3DS hardware sales as one might expect. New 3DS LL sales rose just 862 hardware units week-on-week. These games were re-released for the 3DS to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Pokmon’s launch.

In second place was another new starter, Bandai Namco title Kamen Rider: Battride War Sosei, which shifted 29,366 units during the week on PS4. The Vita edition of that title debuted in fifth place with 22,760 unit sold, while the PlayStation 3 edition went straight to No.7, selling 20,592 units.

Capcom’s Mega Man Legacy Collection debuts in fourth place, shifting 22,955 units.

Last week’s No.1, KanColle Kai, fell to eighth place with sales dipping 86 per cent over last week.

PlayStation 4 was the best-selling hardware of the week, but sales of Sony’s home console fell 1,589 units. The PlayStation Vita remains in second place thanks to Kamen Rider, KanColle Kai and Attack on Titan.
