Microsoft has announced Xbox One preview members in US and Canada can now use an over-the-air tuner to access television programs.
Xbox Wire explains preview members can purchase the Hauppauge WinTV-955Q along with an HDTV antenna to gain access to the service. It runs $79.99 on Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and other retailers – though Microsoft is working on a partnership with Hauppauge to release a lower cost ($59.99) TV tuner designed specifically for Xbox One.
The tuner allows Xbox One owners to plug an antenna into a hardware tuner connected to the console. This will allow folks to watch network stations such as ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC channel as if their television had an antenna on it.
The Xbox One tuner will allow users to stream the content through their mobile device as well, using SmartGlass when connected to the same network.
The hardware maker also revealed Xbox One Digital TV Tuner support for preview members has expanded to the following European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.
The digital tuner will be made available at retail in the aforementioned countries later this year, and is already available in the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
